Clinical teams

Every clinical team working in sync

Medtasker connects hospital teams so they can deliver coordinated patient care without interruptions. A single solution for clinical tasks, communication and coordination, used by every role in the hospital.

The cost of constant interruptions

Ask any clinician what they need more of
and time comes near the top of the list

Yet every shift, clinicians are interrupted by constant paging with little context, chasing colleagues who are off-duty and fielding misdirected calls.

Medtasker changes that. Every task routes to the right on-duty person. Unanswered requests escalate automatically. Each step is tracked and visible.

One solution for all teams

Built to support every role in the hospital

Fewer interruptions. Faster responses.

For doctors working wards and after-hours shifts, Medtasker replaces the constant pager pressure with clinical tasking that actually makes sense.

Every request arrives complete with the patient, the location and the clinical priority, not just a pager number to call back on. When a task has been waiting too long, it reminds and escalates automatically, so the system has your back while you finish what you’re doing.

When your shift ends, you can hand over open tasks to the appropriate person so nothing gets left behind.

Built for the way hospital doctors work
  • Live on-duty directory so you reach the right person on shift
  • Automatic task escalation based on clinical protocol
  • Electronic handover across day and after-hours teams
  • Workload visibility and tracking across your team
  • In-task messaging with full communication history
Very often, one resident is completely overwhelmed with tasks, while another resident might not have quite as much to do. By looking at all the tasks going on, you can actually share the tasks around.

The right clinician reached first time.

Nurses at the bedside are often the first to notice a patient deteriorating. In that moment, they need two things: to reach the right clinician quickly, and to know the request has been received.

Medtasker provides both. The live on-duty directory shows who’s actually filling each role on each shift, so tasks go to the person rostered on. Unanswered tasks escalate automatically, including in time-critical situations like deteriorating patient response.

Nurses see responses in real time and Nurse Unit Managers (NUMs) can monitor every task across the unit. Workloads can be rebalanced on the fly, and if something goes wrong, the full audit trail is there.

Built for how nurses work
  • Live on-duty directory
  • Task creation linked to patient, location and acuity
  • See that someone has acknowledged your request
  • Automatic escalation for deteriorating patient
  • Shift-wide workload view for nurse managers
“If a staff member notices the patient deteriorating, they will escalate a PreMET call which will activate the treating medical team to come and review the patient within 15 minutes. With Medtasker, if nobody shows up after 15 minutes, the task will be automatically re-escalated.”

Clinical SME, Northern Health

Team-based pharmacy, without the phone tag.

Hospital pharmacy is heavily team-based. Medtasker supports that model of working.

Requests go to the pharmacy team, not to an individual who might be off shift, in another ward or at lunch. Whoever is on and available is allocated the task and can pick it up or re-allocate to another team member.

In the Emergency Department (ED), where a timely medication reconciliation can be the difference between a quick discharge and a held bed, Medtasker connects ED nurses and doctors to pharmacy without the paging-and-waiting cycle.

Built for the way hospital pharmacy works
  • Team-based task allocation across multiple locations
  • Direct routing from ED and wards
  • Medication reconciliation workflows
  • In-task messaging and photos (for label and script checks)
Northern Health first piloted Medtasker in its pharmacy department as an alternative to pagers. The pilot’s success drove progressive rollout across the hospital. Medtasker is now Northern Health’s primary clinical communication tool, used by clinicians, pharmacy and allied health teams across day and after-hours shifts.

Coordinated care across every discipline.

Medtasker fits the varied workflows of allied health teams working across different wards, departments and patient cohorts.

When a physiotherapist needs to review a patient before discharge or a dietitian needs to follow up on a referral, the request doesn’t sit on a pager or a whiteboard, it’s in a queue that the whole team can see.

When a podiatrist documents a wound, images are captured in-app, attached to the task and uploaded securely to the patient record. Sensitive photos stay in Medtasker and are never saved on devices or synced to a personal cloud.

Built for the way allied health works
  • Scheduled tasks for planned work
  • Routing by discipline and team
  • In-app photography with EMR integration
  • Cross-team coordination in one solution
Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network uses Medtasker across a broad range of allied health disciplines, from dietitians and physiotherapists to social workers and other specialist teams. Medtasker gives teams a shared view of requests, helping coordinate care across wards, departments and patient cohorts.

A calmer shift and a record that protects everyone.

The managers who run clinical teams don’t just need the team to deliver. They need visibility of how the team is running, the ability to rebalance when pressure builds and a clear record if something goes wrong.

Medtasker gives you all three:

Live workload visibility – See who’s carrying what, in real time and rebalance when needed.
Reporting – Rapidly view response times, task volumes and analyse bottleneck patterns.
Complete audit trail – View every action on a task, including who did what, what was communicated and escalation information.

Built for the way clinical leaders work
  • Live workload visibility across your team
  • Response time, task volume and bottleneck reporting
  • Complete audit trail for incident and adverse event reviews
  • Compliance support (including NSQHS Standard 6 on clinical handover)
  • Rich task data for workforce and training decisions
“Digital health and implementing different technologies is really important in adding efficiency and getting good value out of the healthcare dollar. It’s very important to keep implementing new technologies so that we can give better patient care and get better outcomes for our community.”

Medtasker also coordinates the operational backbone of the hospital, including orderlies, porters, PSAs, cleaners, security, pastoral care and building maintenance. The same solution and core task management, adapted to the way non-clinical teams work.

Frequently asked questions

Medtasker runs on any mobile device, whether that’s a clinician’s own phone under a BYOD policy or a hospital-issued handset. Sensitive photos taken in Medtasker aren’t stored on the phone, so clinical content doesn’t end up sitting on personal phones.

Most clinicians are confident using Medtasker after a single short session of less than 10 minutes. This is because Medtasker is built around the way they already work, rather than adding a separate system to learn. The light training requirement is a large part of why hospitals quickly reach full adoption with Medtasker.

If a task isn’t acknowledged in time, Medtasker reminds the recipient and then escalates it to the wider team, following pathways each hospital configures to match its own protocols. Tasks can also be forwarded to a colleague, who receives it and can accept or decline it, ensuring clear ownership at every step. Every action is time-stamped and recorded, so there is always a complete audit trail from creation through to completion.

Medtasker routes every task through a live on-duty directory, so requests go to whoever is actually rostered on for that role on that shift (not to a clinician who may be at home, on leave or off the ward). This protects clinicians’ personal time and eliminates delays caused by misdirected pages.

Medtasker can completely replace pagers, along with many of the associated phone calls, group chats and handovers associated with pager-based task management. Instead of a number to call back, every request through Medtasker arrives with the patient, location and clinical priority attached. This results in a closed-loop communication cycle, where the sender always knows the request was received and actioned, and can see progress in real time.

When a shift ends, every open task can easily be forwarded to the appropriate role on the incoming team. The full task history travels with it, so the incoming clinician sees the entire handover trail without the need for a meeting. The time-stamped record supports compliance with NSQHS Standard 6 on clinical handover.
